WHO WE ARE
About DEF
The Digital Economy Forum (DEF) is a community-based Think Tank platform, and a portfolio of events dedicated to connecting the Telecom & Tech Ecosystem leaders with Policymakers at the forefront of Nigeria’s digital transformation.
We aim to drive collaboration across the technology ecosystem – government, private sector, civil society and academia to harness the unique ingenuities of the community towards a digital Nigeria.
We believe a focus on developing digital human capital will guarantee the most economic and social return for Nigeria within the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Why the Digital Sector?
To be the lead institution that influences public policy reform within the digital ecosystem, connecting digital talents with policymakers for impact.
We are on a mission to transform Nigeria's digital ecosystem by educating policymakers and the public through evidence-informed research, leading to a creative synergy between young people and the government.

Women and Youth Inclusion
For women, the impact of a digital economy would be more significant. The Mobile Gender Report 2020 by the GSMA Association (an industry association that represents the interests of 750 mobile network operators globally) showed that 27% (Over 1 in 4) Nigerian women who know about the Internet do not use it because they do not have the skills or aren’t digital literate enough to use a smartphone. The affordability of smartphones and other devices is also critically important and is the second most important barrier to women’s following digital literacy. Bridging this digital gender gap would lead to better income opportunities for women and social progress.
Most jobs today require digital skills. Even a market woman in a rural community could do better if she has a smartphone and fintech solutions that improve her access to credit. The future of work for youths and women in Nigeria will be determined by their increased ability to supply the skills for a global economy that is increasingly driven by automation and innovation.
